About the Business
I am a well-qualified and experienced music teacher based in Darlington who offers expert tuition in piano, music theory and composition. I teach people of all ages and at all levels - from beginners to advanced.
My teaching style is adapted to each pupil's ability and personality and I hope all my pupils enjoy their lessons. In my role as piano teacher I encourage my pupils to choose music to play that they like, or if students are taking composition lessons with me, I encourage them to write music in styles that they like. Theory lessons are focussed around whatever syllabus the student is following.
I give piano lessons and instruction in theory and composition at my home (in the west end of Darlington) but I also offer theory and composition tuition by correspondence.
Business Services
Music Theory by Correspondence
I offer correspondence courses in music theory and also music theory lessons by correspondence more specifically tailored to the student’s needs. I am based in Darlington (in the North East of England) but I offer music theory tuition and coaching to anyone requiring it in the UK or to anyone in another country who needs to learn the sort of theory required by the ABRSM.
I teach the grade syllabus systematically, offering tuition and advice that makes music theory easy, rewarding and interesting. I mark, and comment on, all work sent to me and use tried and trusted methods of teaching the theory required at each grade. I also offer theory lessons (on a less formal basis) at any level requested by the student.
I teach theory at all grades and also any theory that is required for the diplomas offered by the Associated Board, Trinity College, and the London School of Music. I offer advice on writing programme notes, on ‘written submissions’, on orchestration and arrangements, and on the approach to viva voce exams.
I teach and offer help and advice for the theoretical elements – chord construction, harmony and counterpoint, composition (in both tonal and atonal styles), and the history of music – of GCSE and A Level music. I also offer help with essay writing.
Piano
I am a well-qualified and experienced music teacher based in Darlington who offers expert tuition in piano, music theory and composition. I teach people of all ages and at all levels – from beginners to advanced. Those of my pupils who sit exams in piano pass with high marks and are frequently invited to play in the High Scorers’ Concerts. None of my pupils has ever failed a theory exam, nearly all passing Grade 5 theory with distinction.
Lessons are conducted in a friendly and informal manner but comprise a wide and thorough musical education. I strive to make learning music as interesting and stimulating as possible.
