London Piano Academy

The London Piano Academy was founded by Andrew Johnson, who wanted to create a dynamic and intuitive piano school in London that gave its students a say in what they learn. At the same time, Andrew wanted to take all of the best educational disciplines and strategies he had learned from being a teacher at the Royal Academy of Music, and combine it with an easy going and friendly teaching environment.

It is our primary aim at the London Piano Academy to instill in our pupils a love for music first and foremost, and to guide each pupil along their particular path to fulfill their maximum potential at the keyboard. We train our students in the very best piano technique, based on a musical lineage that goes back to Beethoven, and covering traditional aspects of piano technique first documented by Frederic Chopin and Franz Liszt; those two monumental pianists and composers of the 19th century who were fundamental in the development of the piano, stretching the boundaries of range and repertoire, to become the apotheosis of virtuosity and musical greatness as we know it today.

We have developed a modular piano course that is exciting in its ability to chart the progress of our students on a weekly basis. This allows them to reflect on their own learning and to have an awareness of their pianism from the very outset. We believe that technique is only the first stage, and being a complete musician who can think and feel beyond the notes, and build their own interpretation, is what matters most in the real world.
