About the Business
Joe was born and raised near Manchester. His father bought him his first guitar at age 13 and he started guitar lessons with the session guitarist Dennis Newey. Joe turned professional at age 16. The first 3 years of his career were spent playing in big bands. At age 19 he started to break into the serious end of the session business, working for Granada TV, ABC TV and the BBC on shows featuring Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey etc.
At age 24 Joe moved to Johannesburg, South Africa, where he quickly established himself as the first call session guitarist for the South African Broadcasting Corporation and independent studios, where he worked with South African luminaries Mike Gibbs and Trevor Rabin.
At 26 Joe was invited to Cologne, Germany by Chris Andrews to work on his productions. It was at this time he became a member of the internationally renowned Kurt Edelhagen Jazz Orchestra. While in the Edelhagen band he worked with some of the world's greatest Jazz musicians.
